5 exercises to help improve your core strength

When you think of core strength, you might think about an abdominal six-pack. While this might look good, it’s not the same as having a strong core.

Understanding core strength

Your core is a group of muscles located between your pelvic floor and diaphragm. Its main job is to stabilize and control your spine. A stable core helps you to maintain an ideal body posture. This helps reduce stress on your joints and promotes ease of movement.

Benefits of core stabilization

Improving core stabilization can help:

  • Reduce stress on the lumbar spine so you can do daily routines with less pain
  • Prevent overuse injuries
  • Improve rehab after an acute injury
  • Prevent or reduce incontinence
